Can Cherry juice help with gout and joint pain?
Dark red, purple, and blue fruits and vegetables contain anthocyanins which provide their natural colour. Cherries are rich in anthocyanins (which are antioxidants – substances that may be able to stop or slow down some types of damage to cells and may help relieve pain caused by gout) and rich in natural vitamins including Vitamins A, C, & K, potassium and fibre.
Many people claim that drinking cherry juice can assist in maintaining healthy joints, arthritis, gout as well as other benefits – due to the high levels of anthocyanins in the fruit. Specifically they have found that dark cherry juice lowers uric acid — the culprit of gout. Both the lowering of uric acid and the increase in antioxidants may help lessen the number of gout attacks.
Common treatments for gout include diet and lifestyle modifications and medication. For some modifying their diet or drinking black cherry juice alone won’t relieve their symptoms, but it may be one of the things you do to improve your health as part of a holistic approach to treating gout (consider giving up alcohol, processed foods with high saturated fats, reducing meat and dairy products and drink more water). With over-the-counter medications talk to your medical specialist but also remember that when you stop taking medications the pain often returns, hence it’s important to put a longer term more holistic plan into place that provides longer-term relief. Incorporating many natural remedies and changes to your lifestyle can go a long way.
Celery seeds for example is rich in potassium, as well as other minerals. There are varying causes for arthritis, but many claim potassium has an impact. Those with potassium deficiencies are at an increased risk for arthritis. Due the high presence of potassium, celery may assist with arthritis caused symptoms, such as pain, discomfort, inflammation, and joint stiffness. Devil’s Claw, Ginger, Lemongrass, Nettle, Dandelion and Burdock are other beneficial herbs to use, as well as drinking apple cider vinegar.
As with other home remedies, herbal supplements, and over-the-counter pain medications, the relief felt will be short lived. That is why many opt for continued use. Luckily, you are safe with most natural remedies. Due to natural ingredients, prolonged use rarely causes any complications or side effects. Speak to your medical specialist and try and put in place a natural and holistic treatment plan in place together.
There are many natural ways to seek relief from the joint pain and inflammation caused by arthritis and gout. Natural remedies are not guaranteed.
